Chestnut Mountain is a resort that is truly for everyone. Located Galena, Illinois, this is one of the few resorts that has expert level runs for those looking to take on a challenge, as well as beginner level runs for those just starting out. The resort itself has skiing and snowboarding, as well as year-round events like mini-golf and river cruises.
Chestnut Mountain has trails up to 3,500 feet in length and it has trails geared towards everyone. In total, the resort has 22 runs and 139 acres of skiable terrain, complete with a big vertical drop of 475 feet. Chestnut Mountain proves itself to be one of the most diverse resorts in the midwest, with its many trails at many difficulties. For those just starting up, there’s skiing and snowboarding lessons, and for those looking to take on a challenge, there’s double black-diamond runs and three terrain parks with two half-pipes, rails, and jumps. The hills also have six lifts and three rope-tow rails.
There is on-site lodging at the resort for those looking to stay multiple days and both the lodging and the base has things for family members of all ages to do. Tickets for Chestnut Mountain on weekdays run $40, and for weekends, that price increases to $52. Hours of operation are typically 9 AM to 9 PM, though they may be later on weekdays.
